About Wild Rice Electric

Wild Rice Electric Cooperative Inc. is a consumer owned utility that was organized in October 1939 to provide electric and utility based services to its customers in northwestern Minnesota.

Wild Rice Electric is a retail power supplier, which owns and maintains over 3800 miles of distribution lines in a 3200 square mile service area. The cooperative receives its wholesale power from Minnkota Power Cooperative headquartered in Grand Forks North Dakota.

The headquarters building for Wild Rice Electric is located at 502 N Main St. in Mahnomen, MN. The office personnel and line maintenance crews are committed to giving customers prompt and courteous service.

A board of 9 directors guides Wild Rice Electric. The Board of Directors represents three director districts with 3 directors in each district. Directors are elected on a rotating basis for three-year terms by the member/owners at their Annual Meeting normally held in March. These directors establish policies and operational procedures and meet regularly on the last Tuesday of each month. The CEO and staff are responsible for the operation of the distribution system based on those directives.
